Kisumu Hotels

The Kisumu hotels aren’t exactly known to offer the best selection in Kenya, but for visitors who are here to explore the area, there are some sensible Kisumu lodging options. As far as luxury Kisumu hotels go, you will be hard-pressed to find any that truly go over the top, but there are Kisumu accommodation options that can surely keep you comfortable. If you are visiting Kisumu, you might appreciate some suggestions for Kisumu hotels to help you find a fitting place to stay.

If you had to pick a frontrunner among the hotels in Kisumu Kenya, it would be safe to nominate the Imperial Hotel. Both business and leisure travelers will find the Imperial Hotel to be a most excellent Kisumu accommodation option not only for the comfortable rooms, but also for the hotel facilities. There are nice banquet facilities here, and the hotel restaurant strives to infuse local flavors and ingredients to its otherwise international menu. There are standard rooms available, which while low on amenities, are comfortable and just an all around good value. The deluxe rooms offer mini-bars and flat-screen TV’s, as do the suites, which also have the nicest bathrooms and four-poster canopy beds. All rooms here are carpeted and have a private bathroom, air-conditioning, mosquito nets, a telephone, and a radio. The cable in the suites and deluxe rooms is satellite cable, so you can enjoy a pretty good range of channels. There is a pretty nice pool here, and you can enjoy a drink either at the pool bar or the terrace bar. Internet services are available should you need them, and there are also laundry facilities, which come in handy after a full day out enjoying one of the area tours, especially if they are of the eco variety.

The Sunset Hotel is another top choice for Kisumu hotels, and it enjoys a nice location just 5 minutes from Kisumu’s city center. Nice views of Lake Victoria can be enjoyed from the grounds and the rooms, which is a huge bonus, and the rooms here are really quite nice for the price. The garden setting here helps to make the Sunset one of the more attractive Kisumu lodging choices, and there is a nice pool here that is great for a refreshing dip. There are 50 rooms here, all of which are clean and comfortable, and each has a private bathroom with separate showers and baths. Air-conditioning, an in-room safe, and a mini-bar are the main amenities, and rates include breakfast. There is a good restaurant on-site here, and the hotel is known as a popular venue for things like cocktail parties and conferences. Many locals use the hotel for wedding receptions, for example, so you might get to witness a bit of that, which is a neat cultural treat.

A historical choice of sorts for Kisumu hotels, the Nyanza Club has been a Kisumu fixture for almost 100 years, a one-time hangout for British civil servants who arrived to work the Kenya-Uganda Railway. If you like golf, then this is the Kisumu lodging choice for you, as the hotel has its own golf course. It might not be the world’s best course, but nonetheless, it offers a fun and challenging experience. There are single, double, and triple rooms available, and all are nice and comfortable for the price. The Nyanza Club, like most Kisumu accommodation options, is a pretty good value, and the friendly staff helps make you feel at home. All of the rooms here feature private bathrooms with showers and tubs, a balcony or veranda, a fridge, cable TV, and overhead fans. There is a well-maintained swimming pool here with plenty of surrounding patio space, and the bar and restaurant serves up good food and a nice array of drinks. Surely deserving mention among the best Kisumu hotels, the Nyanza Club is a fun place that just seems to ooze all kinds of character.

If you are looking for an unpretentious, authentic Kisumu experience, you might try staying at the Hotel Hamba, which is just a short distance from the center of town. If for nothing else, you might stay here just to try the restaurant’s grilled chicken, which is quite good. The rooms here are fairly simple, yet comfortable. Satellite cable TV, mosquito nets, and fans are pretty much the only amenities, but for the money, it’s hard to ask for more. Not only is the Hotel Hamba a good value, but it also offers up a popular patio bar where interesting locals like to hang out. Meeting them and talking about anything and everything is a real joy, and it will help give you insight into real life in Kenya.
