Libya Hotels

Libya hotels are mostly concentrated in the bigger cities and oases, as much of the country is arid desert. The most comfortable of all Libyan hotels are in the capital city of Tripoli. The types of available Libya accommodation in Tripoli run the gamut from luxury to very basic, the most well-appointed being the Corinthia Bab Africa Hotel.

This hotel is one of the tallest buildings in all of Libya, and every room has a view of the Mediterranean Sea. This is the hotel to book if you are looking for comfort and can afford a higher price, as many travelers claim this is the only Libya accommodation that achieves five-star international standards. 299 elegantly furnished rooms offer cable television, internet access and bathrooms fitted with modern amenities. Hungry guests can choose between four different restaurants and a coffee shop inside the hotel. There is also a spa and large swimming pool to indulge in, an amenity not common in many Libya hotels. Friendly staff is on hand to assist with requests, including securing bus or taxi transportation to the city center.

The highest recommended of the Libya hotels without the five star price is the Attawfeek Hotel. Located an easy five-minute walk from Tripoli's Green Square, the Attawfeek offers a midline luxury at a much cheaper price than the Corinthia. Many packages include daily breakfasts and internet charges. Rooms are comfortably furnished and include amenities such as air-conditioning, cable television, and a hair dryer. They offer one restaurant and a fully equipped gym. Laundry service is also available.

If you are searching for a cheap hotel in Libya but don't want to sacrifice good service, consider Sara's Guardian Hotel. This small, family-run establishment only has nine basic rooms, but it is the outstanding service provided by the hotel's owners that has earned this hotel the reputation as being one of the best of all Libyan hotels. Located five minutes from the center of Tripoli by taxi, this cheap hotel in Libya provides basic internet, air-conditioning, satellite television and exceptionally good customer service. The cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food provided at Sara's should not be missed by anyone looking for a cheap hotel in Libya.

If you decide to venture west to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ghadames, a historic oasis town approximately 400 miles from Tripoli, consider staying at the Dar Ghadames Hotel. This recently built Libya accommodation offers beautiful architecture fitting to its desert region. Each room is decorated in a traditional style and offers its own patio or balcony. Air conditioning, heating and television are among the standard modern amenities. The lobby offers a shop, an internet room and a coffee bar. Room rates include breakfast and dinner at the hotel's buffet.

If Leptis Magna is on your itinerary, make the most of it by staying overnight at the Severus Hotel in Al Khoms, just over two miles from the ruins themselves. Staying overnight in Al Khoms facilitates visiting the ruins in the late afternoon and early morning, before and after the many tour groups have arrived or departed. The Severus Hotel is one of the newer hotels in the country, reflected in the excellent condition of the elegantly landscaped grounds. The hotel's quiet rooms offer comfortable beds, air-conditioning and heating. Room rates include an adequate buffet breakfast, and there is a café on the ground floor available for snacks.
