By the 1850's, it became an important coconut plantation, and fishing also helped to sustain the small island population. Denis Island would go on to become a private island in 1975, and its purchaser, Frenchman Pierre Burkhardt, would immediately transform it into a vacation destination. It has since been passed on to other hands, though little has changed here over time, which is music to travelers’ ears. Denis Island tourism is alive and well, but you’ll still enjoy the fact that much of the natural terrain here is left wholly unaffected.
The 350-acre Denis Island boasts a range of interesting
flora and fauna, and birdwatching enthusiasts will appreciate
native bird species such as whimbrels, wood pigeons, and

see below the ocean surface are whale sharks, manta rays,
