Pilanesberg National Park

The Pilanesberg Park in South Africa was established in 1979 and holds the largest family of reintroduced wildlife in southern Africa, making it a must-see for anyone who is interested in seeing wildlife on a vacation to South Africa. Visitors to Pilanesberg Game Reserve can experience the park in a number of different ways, including by a scenic tour in a hot-air balloon. Quite a few options for lodging are located throughout the park and feature a number of amenities.

Adjacent to Sun City, an entertainment complex in the North West Province, Pilanesberg National Park is nestled in the crater of an extinct volcano in the Bojanala Region, giving the park the unique shape of a perfect circle. At the center of everything lies a beautiful lake called the Mankwe Dam. The Pilanesberg Game Reserve is also known as an Alkaline Ring Complex, due to the concentric circles of hills surrounding the park. The park is a geological phenomenon, featuring a number of rare minerals and fertile ground caused by the ancient eruptions of the volcano.

Wildlife flourishes on the Pilanesberg Park in South Africa. Operation Genesis, the largest relocation of wild game in South Africa, reintroduced more than 6,000 animals to the park from other reserves. Although lions were thought to pose a threat to the locals, they were resettled in Pilanesberg National Park in 1993 and have since managed splendidly in their new environment. Unfortunately, a reintroduction of cheetahs, on the other hand, failed. Overall, though, the operation was a success, and, home to hundreds of species, Pilanesberg Game Reserve offers a delightful animal encounter experience for everyone.

In addition to the traditional jeep safari, guests will find a host of ways to really enjoy the wild Africa experience at this park. Driving safaris are available for day and night. Several hideouts are posted in different locations for tourists to view the animals in their element. Picnic sites, walk-in aviaries, and hiking trails are especially popular among those who prefer to hoof it, and the hot-air balloon safari provides a very special opportunity to view Pilanesberg National Park and its wildlife from an aerial perspective.

Pilanesberg accommodations are numerous and quite comfortable, with fantastic amenities and facilities. Luxurious lodges and chalets offer a wild experience with a touch of sumptuousness thrown in. For those untamed adventure-seekers, campsites present a wonderful opportunity for getting close to Africa’s natural world. From luxury lodges to campsites, guests will enjoy the enhanced experience during their stay at this park.

The unique surroundings are what make Pilanesberg Park in South Africa such a charming location for a vacation or safari. Guests from every walk of life are sure to enjoy everything this beautiful nature reserve has to offer, from the Big Five game animals, including lions, leopards, black rhinos, elephants, and cape buffalo, to luxury accommodations at one of the lodges to mingling with nature on a hike or camping under the stars. No matter what they do, visitors will bring home with them an experience to last a lifetime.
