Zimbabwe Hotels

Zimbabwe has some of the most breathtaking attractions in sub-Saharan Africa, including the majestic Victoria Falls, Great Zimbabwe, and the bustling capital city of Harare. Despite difficult economic circumstances, many hotels in Zimbabwe have managed to maintain good standards for international tourists and also get significant business from NGOs and diplomatic travelers. When traveling in Zimbabwe, be aware that many hotels in Zimbabwe cannot accept credit cards, so having a good quantity of cash in an international currency is a must—due to runaway inflation, the Zimbabwe suspended its own currency in April 2009, and businesses now conduct transactions using foreign currencies. Tourists should be aware of the current economic situation and prepare themselves as necessary.

One of the most famous and best-quality Zimbabwe hotels is the five-star Meikles Hotel in Harare. Although it is now looking a bit dated, the Meikles is probably the best hotel for international travelers to stay in during their visit to Harare, as the hotel staff do their best to provide a smooth transition to staying in the country. Accessible help with currency exchange and other difficulties that may come up while traveling in Zimbabwe make the price completely worth it. The Meikles hotel has all the amenities you would expect of a five-star hotel, including a pool, sauna, exercise room, and massage, and the rooms are comfortably furnished with air-conditioning and other amenities. The hotel offers a good breakfast and excellent full-course meals are available at La Fontaine, the hotel restaurant. It is one of the most centrally located Zimbabwe hotels in Harare and is within walking distance of several shopping malls and other tourist attractions. Several of the rooms overlook a view of one of the city parks and are perfect if you want some peace and quiet. Overall, given the difficulty of maintaining top standards in a deteriorating economy, the Meikles is one of the best hotels in Zimbabwe.

Many people who travel to Zimbabwe do so to visit the spectacular Victoria Falls on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Zimbabwe side of the falls has been extensively developed for tourists, and travelers can find an excellent Victoria Falls hotel there. The Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is one of the top hotels in the area. Situated just a ten-minute walk from the downtown area, this four-star hotel is conveniently located close to the amenities of the town, while maintaining a secluded feeling. The hotel has an atmosphere like a resort in Zimbabwe, with cruises and other adventures available for travelers to partake in, and provides excellent service in an otherwise poor area. Free shuttle buses provide access to the falls themselves as well as the downtown area. The Safari Lodge has a significant advantage over any other Victoria Falls hotel in that from the hotel balcony tourists can view wildlife such as elephants, buffalo, and crocodiles at a local watering hole. The Safari Lodge also boasts excellent food with several restaurants and bars, as well as two swimming pools.

Another excellent Victoria Falls hotel is the Ilala Lodge, another four-star hotel (though an affordably priced one) in close proximity to the falls. Guests will find impeccable rooms and excellent service, with the travel desk available to arrange activities and to help guests with anything they need. For an up-close experience of the falls, the Ilala Lodge may be your best bet, as guests can hear the roar of the falls from their balconies or as they dine at the restaurant. The falls themselves are within walking distance of Ilala Lodge, one of the highest-rated Zimbabwe hotels.
