Kunming Dragon Gate Grotto. The Dragon Gate Grotto is a temple complex that is set high above Lake Dian in Kunming's Western Hills area. Together with the nearby Sanqing Temple Complex, it forms what is collectively known as the Dragon Gate Grotto Complex. Work on the Dragon Gate Grotto was carried out between the years 1781 and 1853, and it is easy to imagine just how difficult the building process must have been. After all, its archway, platform, main room and sculptures are all carved out of stone. Dramatic lake and mountain views complement the amazing aspects of the Dragon Gate Grotto Complex.
