Yangtze River. The Yangtze River flows for nearly 4,000 miles through Southern China. That makes it the longest river in Asia and the third longest river in the world. Its source is found in the Tibetan Plateau, and it filters out into the East China Sea. Found at the eastern terminus is the city of Shanghai. One-third of China's population lives within the extensive Yangtze River basin, and the Yangtze River Delta generates approximately 20 percent of the country's GDP. For tourists, taking a cruise on the Yangtze River can be a very rewarding thing. Among the highlights on the Yangtze River cruises is the scenic Three Gorges area.
