The Yangshuo countryside is filled with interesting rural scenery, ripe with Chinese culture, and dotted with crops of the karst hills for which Yangshuo became famous. As a long-time tourist spot, Yangshuo is travel-friendly and filled with options for touring the backdrop and karst hills via bike tours. Bikes can be rented in town at one of the many rental shops and outfitters. Setting out, cyclists will get a chance to explore small villages along picturesque rivers, sprawling farms, and several attractions such as Moon Hill and bamboo rafting locals. Moon Hill is one of the most popular Yangshuo attractions, located south of the Jingbao River. The hill, naturally created entirely from limestone, is penetrated by a hole shaped like a moon, giving it its name. Moon Hill’s elevation peaks at about 390 meters, reached by more than 1200 stairs of marble (finished in 1981 to make the attractions more accessible) and leading to the hill’s main attraction, the Moon Hill Cave. Moon Hill offers a view of several other sites popular during tours of China; Dragon Cave, New Water Caves, and Black Buddha Cave.

Geographically, Yangshuo offers adventure tourists an ideal landscape to explore by cycling, hiking, and especially climbing the verdant limestone cliffs. Venturing out from the center of town, it becomes evident just how many dozens of cliffs are available for climbing. Climbing is by far the most popular of all things to do in Yangshuo because it is so varied in levels that just about anyone physically fit can enjoy it. Gear is easily found and rented in town on a daily and even weekly basis. The best time of year for climbing is in August through November, although it is possible throughout the year.

Called Shouyang Mountain by the people of China, this is another of the natural Yangshuo attractions and is located south of Guilin. It provides one of many top things to do in Yangshuo - including hiking and enjoying lovely scenery. Lotus Peak appears as the bud of a water lily rising from the water, and is smooth and flat like a mirror. Inscriptions along the cliffs of date back in history to the Qing Dynasty and are the hill’s renowned feature. The best views are afforded by standing on Lotus Hill Bridge. The bridge, constructed in the late 1970s, is adorned in carvings representing Yangshuo’s backdrop.
