An example is the Thongbay Guest House in set in beautiful gardens just outside of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Luang Prabang. Charming thatched and bamboo bungalows have verandas with river views and modern facilities.
Some hotels near the Mekong River in Laos will actually be in another country. This is especially true of the Golden Triangle area on the Mekong River in Thailand in the far north. Thailand has a more developed tourism infrastructure than Laos and, consequently, more hotels in this area that has been a popular destination for decades. Here you will find a number of small budget hotels as well as larger resorts. They are almost all located just across the river from Laos. This Golden Triangle region that includes the beautiful Thai cities of Chang Mai and Chang Rai is often the starting point for Mekong River cruises heading south. Because there are relatively few hotels in all of Laos, you will actually find that some "hotels" are, in fact, cruise ships.
