Vietnam Holidays

The most popular Vietnam holidays often occur on a boat, sometimes offshore in the South China Sea in the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site of Halong Bay and sometimes aboard a river cruise ship in the Mekong Delta. Less often, large ocean liners anchor off the coast south of Ho Chi Minh City for an overnight or two while passengers enjoy their holidays in Vietnam on shore excursions. The itineraries of ships in this part of the world might include Yangon in Myanmar (formerly Rangoon in Burma), Bangkok in Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines before heading towards the Far East. While most cruises are quite deluxe, it is possible to find cheap Vietnamese holidays on board a boat if you do your research carefully. Prices are also quite a bit lower in the low season periods, and good Vietnam holiday deals are offered by cruise lines during these less busy times.
Cheap Vietnamese holidays are also available on the beaches of the country’s long coastline, even though this is also where most of the resorts and luxury hotels are located. Most goods and services are quite inexpensive in the country (the low cost of excellent Vietnamese beer is legendary), so it’s possible to have enjoyable beach holidays in Vietnam at very good hotels if you do not need all the bells and whistles of five-star resorts. You will find that vacation packages that include everything from international flights, airport transfers, tours, meals, and hotels can be very economical. There are also a number of very good budget hotels that cater to families. They are generally on public beaches, whereas the most deluxe resorts will have their own strip of private beachfront.
More cheap Vietnamese holidays can be had from the seat of bicycle. Cycling has become very popular in the countries of Southeast Asia. Some cycling tours occur in the vast flat region of the Mekong Delta. This is a very rural and agricultural area with small villages, and accommodation on a cycling trip here is usually in small, inexpensive guesthouses and budget hotels. This is also true of the northern mountains, home to several fascinating tribes of ethnic minorities. Accommodation in this region often includes a home hosted stay with a local family of the Hmong, Tay, and Dao people.
Other special interest Vietnam holidays include golf and diving. There are historic championship courses around the city of Dalat, as well as in the larger cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It is actually possible to enjoy golf holidays in Vietnam on the Ho Chi Minh Golf Trail that begins in the north around Hanoi, and travels south to hit the courses in Da Nang, Dalat, and Ho Chi Minh City. Soon you will be able to golf on beautiful Phu Quoc Island.
Whatever kind of Vietnam holidays you book, you should be sure to check out some of the main attractions, including beautiful pagodas and temples, fascinating museums, and beautiful landscapes. If in the north, the Old Quarter of Hanoi and beautiful Halong Bay should not be missed. The beaches of the south are beautiful, and in the center of the country is the UNESCO World Heritage site of ancient Hue.
