One of the top ten busiest airports in Australia, the airport in Cairns gets its fair share of visitors on an annual basis. Serving the needs of these visitors are a domestic terminal and an international terminal, the likes of which are connected by a covered walkway. The majority of the flights that arrive at the domestic terminal come from Sydney and Brisbane, and there are others that arrive from such destinations as Perth, Darwin, and Ayers Rock (also known as Uluru).
The Cairns flights that arrive at the international terminal tend to originate out of Asia and New Zealand. As such, air travelers who are coming from other regions outside of Australia will likely have to catch a connecting flight if they wish to fly to Cairns. After arriving at the Cairns Airport, it is a relatively short trip into town. In fact, the airport in Cairns is just five miles north of the downtown zone. This means that it is also close to the inviting Cairns beach communities that can be found north of the city. As far as the Cairns Airport ground transportation options are concerned, they include renting a car, taking a taxi, hopping on a local shuttle bus, and hiring a limo.
Both long-term and short-term parking is available at the airport in Cairns, and all of the car park areas are open 24 hours a day. As for other things that air travelers might look to take advantage of during their visit to the Cairns Airport, they include internet services, shops, restaurants, currency exchange centers, ATMs, showers, baby-care areas, and restrooms.
