Guam Beaches

Guam beaches are one of the main attractions for travelers coming to Guam.  From the popular Tumon Bay to the southern shores near Cocos Island, beaches in Guam live up to their tropical reputation.  The climate in Guam is moderate and consistent, and as such there is almost never a bad day to visit the Guam beaches.  White sand meets turquoise water, where visitors can enjoy everything from jet skiing and sunbathing to scuba diving and snorkeling.  Information about some of the most popular beaches in Guam is included below.

Governor Joseph F. Flores Beach Park

This long name refers to the most popular beach park in Guam.  The park includes a large grassy area where families, locals and travelers can almost always be found picnicking and playing.  The park also includes the mile and a half long stretch of Guam beach along Tumon Bay; open each day for a variety of water sports.  There is no fee to visit this beach Guam features, and ample parking and multiple showers are located on both sides of the park.

Haputo Beach

This well known Guam beach is located in northern Guam just past the Micronesia Mall.  In addition to enjoying water sports, visitors to this Guam beach can also trek to near by Tweed’s Cave.  The cave is named for General George Tweed, a U.S. naval officer who escaped Japanese troops in 1941 by hiding out in these caves near the beaches in Guam.  In addition to hiding out, Tweed used radio signals he received in the cave to transmit information about the Japanese invasion to the people of Guam.  Tourists will need a visitor’s day pass to access the caves, but the beach is open to the public daily free of charge.

Taga’chang Beach Park

Many Guam beaches are noted for their white sand and gentle surf, but Taga’chang Beach is one of the best places on the island to enjoy snorkeling, fishing and diving.  Visitors may be surprised to find that the drive down to the beach, located in southern Guam, is lined by pine trees.  Limestone cliffs and a long coral reef combine to make this a unique beach Guam offers.  The stony tide pools created by this mix are home to an abundance of sea life; perfect for snorkeling.  There are no fees to use Taga’chang Beach, but guests should bring their own food.

Talofofo Beach Park

As the name suggests, this beach Guam features is located in Talofofo.  Unique among the beaches of Guam due to its black sandy shores, Talofofo Beach is the most popular area for Guam island surfers.  There are no fees or passes required to use the park, and visitors will find picnic shelter, barbecue pits, showers and restroom facilities available.  This is not the ideal place for snorkeling or swimming, although swimming is permitted.  This is a great beach to surf, picnic or soak up the sun.

Ipan Beach Park

In contrast to Talofofo Beach, Ipan is a southern Guam beach that is ideal for swimming and wading.  The beach also has picnic tables, barbecue pits, showers and restroom facilities and is open to the public during daylight hours, with no associated fee.  Swimmers should use caution and note that there is no lifeguard on duty.

Although these are just a few of the great beaches in Guam, travelers who make their way to island to soak up the sun should have no trouble finding the perfect beach to complement their travels.
