Guam

Guam

The small island of Guam is located in the Pacific Ocean about 13 degrees north of the equator. Guam is east of the Philippines and south of Japan, and has long attracted foreigners because of its strategic military location and excellent tourism opportunities. Planning a Guam vacation will involve a long flight no matter where you leave from, but Guam travel continues to be popular because of its sunny beaches and consistently sunny skies.

Deciding when to go to Guam and how to plan your Guam vacation is the first step to enjoying Guam tourism. The island of Guam is just 210 square miles and is populated by a mix of Chamorro natives, Spanish settlers and United States military personal. The island of Guam and its culture are also heavily influenced by visitors from Asia, most notably Japan. The history of Guam continues to influence Guam tourism in the restaurants, museums and festivals found on Guam.

Travelers flying in for their Guam vacation will notice quickly that getting around on Guam will require the aid of a car. The economy of Guam relies heavily on Guam tourism, and rental car offices are not difficult to locate. Most people from Guam living on the island own a car themselves, as car travel is the safest and most efficient way to get around Guam.

Guam travel is also popular for the great beaches that can be enjoyed throughout the year on Guam. Tourists and people from Guam alike can head to the beach during both the wet and dry seasons. Guam has more sunny days per year than many other islands and is a true tropical paradise when it comes to weather and temperature. Humidity is high, but the temperatures stay moderate and comfortable even for travelers generally not accustomed to heat.

People from Guam are also known for their excellent festivals, and parties of every kind are incredibly popular on the island. No matter when you plan your Guam travel you will be sure to find a house party, carnival, or festival of some kind and as a rule all citizens and guests of Guam are always invited to every party. The influence of the Chamorro natives remains a distinct factor and is seen clearly through the tradition of community parties and festivals. Most community parties are potluck-style affairs, and polite guests will remember to bring along a food dish to share with the group.

In addition to plenty of parties and festivals, Guam travel can also include scuba diving, beach combing, tours, cruises and more. Food is unique and restaurants tend to be influenced by a combination of cultures and peoples. Fishing is yet another popular activity for tourists and Guam natives alike, and tours meant specifically for fishing can also be arranged. Whether you travel Guam to soak up sun, history or both, travelers all report that the people of Guam are friendly and the weather is incredible.
