Dunedin Hotels

For a taste of Scotland in New Zealand, you can head to the fourth-largest city of Dunedin. You can literally get a taste of Scotland here, as the city even has its own Haggis makers, which definitely adds extra substance to the New Zealand food scene. You can also buy a Scottish kilt here. Tours of the city are a joy, as it’s well-preserved Victorian-era edifices offer plenty to look at and learn about. There are a few great museums here where you can learn about Dunedin and New Zealand history, and like anywhere else in the country, there are a list of fun active pursuits that you can go after. When it comes to the Dunedin hotels, you’ll have an array of great choices to pick from. There is a Dunedin accommodation to fit all budgets, and you’ll find some suggestions here for Dunedin hotels to help you find the right one for your upcoming trip.

For a good room at a good price, the stylish Scenic Circle Dunedin City Hotel is an ideal pick among the downtown Dunedin hotels. You’re just a couple of blocks away from the Octagon, and you can enjoy plenty of shopping and dining spots within walking distance. A nice, hearty breakfasts is included in the moderate rates, and you’ll find the rooms to be quite spacious and amenity-filled. Guest room amenities include cable TV, coffee and tea facilities, a fridge and mini-bar, a work desk, high-speed internet access, and a hair dryer and iron. If you want a room with a view, many of the 110 units offer nice harbor vistas. A nice restaurant and bar help to round out the facilities, which also include a small, but good gym. You can enjoy room service around the clock here, and the food is really quite good. Guests at the Scenic Circle can get tour and rental car advice, as well as help arranging any tour or transportation needs.

Dunedin New Zealand hotels often come in the form of motels or motor lodges. The Bluestone on George executive motel is a new “motel” entry among the downtown Dunedin hotels, and though it’s priced a bit above the average New Zealand motel, you’ll know why once you arrive. This place is quite luxurious, offering a tasteful decor throughout, and the location is hard to beat. You can walk to some of the finest Dunedin attractions and restaurants. You’ll definitely feel at home in the studio apartments here, which can generally accommodate up to three people. If you need more space, you can always book adjoining units. Comfortable bedding, complimentary bath products, bathrooms with heated mirrors and floors, in-room laundry facilities, high-speed internet access, cable TV, a balcony or patio, and coffee and tea making facilities are some of the amenities that guests can enjoy at the Bluestone on George. Chances are you won’t believe how much you get for the price here. The hotel facilities are somewhat minimal at this excellent Dunedin accommodation choice, but you will find business facilities, and a nice gym among them, as well as a relaxing Guest Lounge where drinks can be enjoyed.

Staying at one of the many great New Zealand bed and breakfasts is always nice, and you’ll find an ample amount of great B&B’s on the Dunedin lodging scene. There are also some interesting homestay options that are quite akin to the bed and breakfast experience. One of the more renowned bed and breakfast/homestay Dunedin hotels is the luxurious Claremont House. Set in a private guesthouse, you’ll enjoy the tranquil suburban setting of Roslyn, which is just minutes from town. There are only 5 units here, and all are spacious and well-decorated indeed. If you need extra space, you can book the Cottage, which is set in the original coach house. The cottage is certainly best for families, as the other rooms are laden with antiques and other collectibles. Between the living areas and the bathrooms, you’ll have everything you need. Each unit here offers coffee and tea making facilities, a TV, bath products, attractive furnishings, and luxurious linens and bedding, Hair dryers and irons are available, and a wonderful breakfast is included in the rates. You’ll get a free bottle of wine upon arrival, and guests are free to help themselves to complimentary drinks and snacks every afternoon and evening.

There are certainly plenty of high-end Dunedin accommodation options, but for those who are traveling on a budget or just looking for a good place to rest their head, the Manor House Backpackers hostel is a good choice. It’s certainly among the more popular backpacker-style Dunedin lodging picks. The rooms here are set in two old and charming houses, and they are impressively tidy. The standard dorm-style rooms can be found here, while some might prefer to spend extra to enjoy a private twin or double room. You can also bump up to a triple room if you need the extra space. For those looking for the base price accommodations here, there are tent and van sites where you basically camp for the night. There are three communal kitchens here that guests love, and they are often good places to meet and socialize with fellow travelers from around the world. In the TV and DVD lounge, you can pick from an array of movies, and if you’ve been out hiking or something the like and need to wash your clothes, there are some cheap laundry facilities to be taken advantage of. Maybe you’ll grab one of the free bikes to enjoy your own little New Zealand bicycle tour about town. There’s no gimmicks or false claims here. It’s just a good straightforward hostel, and an excellent cheap Dunedin accommodation.
