Mt Hutt

Mt Hutt is an intimidating mountain and the home of one of the best ski areas in New Zealand. If you are into heli skiing, you will be taking Mt Hutt helicopters deep into the eastern rim of the Southern Alps where you will be dropped into over 900 acres of deep, powdery terrain. Mt Hutt skiing is certainly not always for the faint of heart, but there is an array of runs for both skiers and snowboarders alike. People of all ages and skill levels will be able to enjoy their time here with a number of alluring activities and attractions besides the obvious downhill, alpine variety. You can get into your Mt Hutt accommodations nice and early in the winter season of the Southern Hemisphere, as snowmaking gets going as early as the middle of May at this resort. Although there are all kinds of activities and attractions, from dining and shopping, to classes and terrain parks, the genuine excitement begins on the downhill slopes.

The top elevation of Mt Hutt is 6,843 feet with a vertical rise of 2,240 feet. Of course some of the most extreme skiing and snowboarding takes place on the intimidating peaks of New Zealand and Australia, so you can expect to see Mt Hutt helicopters dropping major thrill seekers into the throws of the most advanced terrain on the premises. The 900 acres of skiable terrain excludes some of the more intense areas in the backcountry, including the Rakaia Saddle Chutes. Although there are some seriously challenging ski runs for the most seasoned veterans, there are also plenty of finely groomed trails and open areas for beginners to make the most of their learning experience at Mt Hutt while also having a blast. Of the total ski runs, 25 percent are for beginners, 50 percent are for intermediates, and 25 percent are for experts. There are lessons available, as well as a gear rental and repair shop.

Dining is also not a problem at Mt Hutt where you will find a variety of food outlets and a café to meet all of your needs. Grab dinner or just a snack and a drink with your friends after an exhilarating day tearing up the slopes. If you are traveling with a group of friends and want to save money on lodging, you cannot do a whole lot better than the economy lodges and motels within close proximity of the resort. These Mt Hutt accommodations include everything from extremely inexpensive backpacker hostels to economy motels. You can all go in on the price of one of these cheap Mt Hutt accommodations and end up saving a lot of money that you can spend on fun activities in and around the area. For instance, you can all go in on the price of renting one of the Mt Hutt helicopters for some of the most extreme and intense skiing or boarding in your life. The resort will be more than happy to help you arrange all of the details for a rental. Of course, you will need to be of a certain skill grade to be able to do this. No matter where you choose to stay you are guaranteed to have an amazing time. There are also six other resorts within 40 minutes, including Temple Basin, Mount Olympus, and Broken River.
