Temple Basin Ski Area

The Temple Basin Ski Area is a popular ski resort in New Zealand. It is situated at the very heart of Arthur’s Pass National Park in the Southern Alps. It is a club ski resort, which simply means that members will save money on everything from ski and lift passes to nights at one of the two lodges on-site. You do not have to be a member to stay at the lodges, but you will have to fill out a form and take care of the business of becoming a member before you can take full advantage of onsite activities and Temple Basin lodging.
You can work it out in a number of affordable ways. There are Buddy Passes, which give up to four people full season passes for a one-time payment. There are also early season and late season passes, as well as some discounts available for juniors and seniors. If you are going to spend any significant amount of time at all at the Temple Basin Ski Resort, it is well worth the added investment for membership to this destination just an hour and a half from the international airport in Christchurch.
The ski and snowboarding terrain are simply awesome at the Temple Basin Ski Area. There are a plethora of ski runs spread out over nearly 800 acres that are served by four rope-tow lifts that make it possible for you to not have to wait in long lines to get to the runs of your choice. The top elevation at the Temple Basin Ski Resort tops out at over 6,300 feet with a nice vertical drop of 1,400 feet. Of the total ski runs, 25 percent are for beginners, 50 percent for intermediates, and 25 percent for experts. One of the other great things about staying at the Temple Basin Ski Area is that you will have easy access to a variety of other awesome resorts. Broken River is a mere twenty miles away, while Mt. Olympus and Mt. Hutt are each within a 50-minute drive. As if it were not already enough to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful land in the Southern Hemisphere, when you visit Temple Basin in New Zealand, you will also be within close range of some of the best activities and attractions in the country. Besides the downhill alpine sports, people enjoy mountain climbing and biking, bungy jumping, boating, white water rafting, and much more.
Slope-side Temple Basin lodging can be found in the resort’s two modern lodges. Here, you will find dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds that sleep four to twelve people. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and towel, but dinner, breakfast, and free wireless Internet access are all included in the cost of the Temple Basin lodging at these accommodations. You will also a nice selection of lodges, hotels, inns, rental apartments in the surrounding areas. The Temple Basin Ski Resort is also nearby plenty of restaurants, pubs, and cafes, so it will be no problem at all finding a fun place to enjoy dinner and a drink with your family or friends. The Temple Basin Ski Area is one of the best places in New Zealand for skiing, snowboarding, and generally, having a great time.
