Tahiti Beaches

One of the main reasons why thousands of honeymooners take Tahiti holidays and cruises every year is because of the beautiful lagoons and beaches of Tahiti. Satellite images taken of Tahiti often reveal a brilliantly white coastline surrounded by bright, almost neon, blue water. Tahiti, along with the other beaches of French Polynesia, offer an abundance of opportunities for scuba diving, snorkeling, and swimming. Tahiti beach resorts are often popular places to spend a luxurious Tahiti honeymoon vacation.

Some of the best Tahiti beaches are located on the grounds of Tahiti beach resorts are located on the west coast just south of the capital city of Papeete and the international airport.. The Tahiti Radisson Plaza Resort is located right on Lafayette Beach, overlooking the Matavi Bay on Tahiti’s eastern coast. After a day of relaxing in the pools or swimming in the beaches of Tahiti, guests can enjoy getting pampered in the day spa or enjoying live nightly entertainment. The hotel is only 10 miles from the airport and from the vibrant capital of Papetee.

If you’re not staying at one of the Tahiti Beach resorts, look for the public Tahiti beaches. Tahiti beaches are located on the west coast just south of the capital city of Papeete and the international airport. Plage de Toaroto is a beach in Tahiti that features a half mile long white sand beach and a park like atmosphere with clean public restrooms and showers. The waters are calm enough for swimming and the sand is ideal for lounging. If you’re onboard “Le Truck,” Tahiti’s open air transportation system, simply ask the driver to stop at “Tapeara’s Pereo’s Mataeinaa,” which is the designated stop for Plage de Toaroto Beach.

Few people realize that not every beach in Tahiti has white sand. The Papenoo Beach on the north coast and Papera beach on the south coast feature black sand that provides for an interesting contrast against the blue water. The waves at both of these beaches are a bit turbulent, making them some of the best Tahiti beaches for surfing.

East of Papetee in the suburb of Pirae, you’ll find a nice black sand beach next to the Royal Tahitian Hotel. Further up the coastal road is the beach at Venus Point. This beach in Tahiti took its name from Captain James Cook’s observation of the planet Venus in the year 1769. The centerpoint of the beach is a large lighthouse surrounded by a park like atmosphere. There is also a snack bar, a gift shop, and public showering facilities.

A short ferry ride from Tahiti is the island of Moorea, where some of the best Tahiti beaches are located. Moorea has considerably more public beaches and longer coast lines than Tahiti beaches. Teavaro public beach, on the eastern coast, features shallow waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Head to the beaches at Hauru Point, on the northwest section of Moorea, for a large selection of hotels and water that is ideal for kayaking, sailing, and snorkeling.

No matter what time of year you decide to visit the beaches of Tahiti, you’ll experience warm temperatures and a variety of beaches for swimming, diving, relaxing by the beach, and enjoying your Tahiti honeymoon vacation.
