Abilene is a city in Dickinson County, Kansas, located 163 miles west of Kansas City, Missouri, in the Flint Hills region. The small historical town is famous for being the former home to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Like most cities in the Midwest, public transportation is very limited, making an Abilene rent a car a great way to get around. Look for great deals on Abilene car rentals and use your savings to visit popular area attractions like the Eisenhower Presidential Center, the Lebold Mansion, the Greyhound Hall of Fame, the Hall of Generals wax museum, and the Seelye Mansion, or take a scenic drive through the historic part of the city and visit Old Abilene Town and Museum. Abilene car rentals are available downtown (usually for better rates than those at the airport) from several national chains. If you fly into Wichita Mid-Continent Airport (ICT), car rentals are provided in terminal by Alamo, Thrifty, Dollar, Enterprise, Budget, Avis, Hertz, and National. Try Alamo for the lowest rates, followed by Thrifty and Dollar. If you arrive at Kansas City International Airport (MCI), car rentals are provided via complementary shuttle by Payless, Enterprise, Thrifty, Dollar, Hertz, Budget, Avis, Alamo, and National. Try Payless for the best deals, followed by Enterprise, Thrifty, and Dollar. You must present a valid driver's license and credit card issued in your name at most Abilene rental car agencies (although some will take a cash deposit depending on a credit check), along with proof of insurance if you decline the vendor's coverage options. Usually age requirements for a rent a car are 21 for compact and economy cars, 25 for all others, and an additional young driver charge may apply for anyone under 25 (select agencies will rent to qualifying individuals over 18 for an additional fee).
