Cedar Rapids is the second largest city in Iowa located on both banks of the Cedar River, and nicknamed the City of Five Seasons. While historically known as an industrial city, Cedar Rapids has recently begun to grow and expand, attracting new residents and visitors to the area thanks to the city’s and warm Midwestern hospitality. The city’s central location 20 miles north of Iowa City and 100 miles east of Des Moines, makes a Cedar Rapids rent a car a great way to get around. Look for great deals on Cedar Rapids car rentals and save time and money to enjoy popular attractions like Mays Island, Rapids Museum of Art, the Paramount Theatre, and the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance.
Cedar Rapids car rentals are available downtown (usually for better rates than those at the airport) from several national companies. If you fly into Eastern Iowa Airport (CID), located about 5 miles south of the city, car rentals are provided in terminal by Enterprise, Alamo, National, Hertz, and Avis. Try Enterprise and Alamo for the lowest rates, followed by National. You must present a valid driver's license and credit card issued in your name at most Cedar Rapids rental car agencies (although some will take a cash deposit depending on a credit check), along with proof of insurance if you decline the vendor's coverage options. Usually age requirements for a rent a car are 21 for compact and economy cars, 25 for all others, and an additional young driver charge may apply for anyone under 25 (select agencies will rent to qualifying individuals over 18 for an additional fee). Drivers who are used to warmer climates should be advised that the colder weather months (Nov-Feb) often bring snow and ice to area roads. Visitors who park their cars should be prepared in case their car is "snowed in" by snow removal trucks. Also, strict attention to parking rules and snow emergencies is recommended to avoid being towed away at the car owner's expense.
