Fort Wayne is the second largest city in Indiana, located in Allen County in the northeastern part of the state. It is situated at the heart of the Midwest, about 30 minutes from the western Ohio border and 70 minutes from the southern border of Michigan. Like most cities in the Midwest public transportation is limited, making a Fort Wayne rent a car a great way to get around. Because of its high geographical location on the Wabash-Erie canal, surrounded by relatively flat countryside, Fort Wayne is sometimes referred to as “Summit City”. It is a metropolitan urban center known for small town hospitality and the regional commerce and high tech industry center for Northeast Indiana, Southwestern Michigan and Western Ohio. Look for great deals on Fort Wayne car rentals and save time and money to explore the city’s many historical buildings dating back to the 1700s, Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, Allen County Public Library Genealogical Collection, or the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Fort Wayne car rentals are available downtown (usually for better rates than those at the airport) from Enterprise, Budget, Hertz, Avis, and National. Try Enterprise for the best deals, followed by Hertz and Budget. If you fly into Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA), recognized as "the nation's friendliest airport", car rentals are provided in terminal by Enterprise, Budget, Alamo, Avis, National, and Hertz. Try Enterprise for the lowest rates, followed by Budget and Alamo. You must present a valid driver's license and credit card issued in your name at most Fort Wayne rental car agencies (although some will take a cash deposit depending on a credit check), along with proof of insurance if you decline the vendor's coverage options. Usually age requirements for a rent a car are 21 for compact and economy cars, 25 for all others, and an additional young driver charge may apply for anyone under 25 (select agencies will rent to qualifying individuals over 18 for an additional fee).
