Helena is the state capital of Montana, located in the Western Central part of the state. The historic downtown area of the capital city is situated in a steep gulch with parts of the city perched on surrounding hillsides, opening up into the wide Missouri River valley. A Helena rent a car is a great way to get around and see all that the area has to offer like Montana's State Capitol, an excellent example of Greek Renaissance architecture, or 19th-century mansions, historic Last Chance Gulch and Tour Train, and restored pioneer dwellings. Look for great deals on Helena car rentals and save time and money to explore popular recreation options like the Great Divide Ski Area, mountains and National Forests Service land along the Continental Divide, or the ghost town of Marysville. Helena car rentals are available downtown (usually for better rates than those at the airport) from Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, and National. Try Enterprise for the best deals, followed by Hertz. If you fly into Helena Regional Airport, car rentals are provided in terminal by National, Alamo, and Avis, or via complementary shuttle by Enterprise. Try Enterprise for the lowest rates, followed by National and Alamo. You must present a valid driver's license and credit card issued in your name at most Helena rental car agencies (although some will take a cash deposit depending on a credit check), along with proof of insurance if you decline the vendor's coverage options. Usually age requirements for a rent a car are 21 for compact and economy cars, 25 for all others, and an additional young driver charge may apply for anyone under 25 (select agencies will rent to qualifying individuals over 18 for an additional fee). Be advised that road conditions in Montana can be very hazardous in the winter, so consider your vehicle accordingly, and exercise extra caution if you are not accustomed to driving winding mountain roads or in extreme weather conditions.
