Huntsville is the largest city in northern Alabama, located in Madison and Limestone Counties, about 20 miles from the border with Tennessee. Named after its first settler John Hunt during the War of 1812, the city has grown across nearby hills and along the Tennessee River, adding textile mills, then later munitions factories, to become a major city and a center for missile defense and aerospace technologies, hosting the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and Redstone Arsenal. Public transportation is not very popular here, making a Huntsville rent a car a great way to get around on your own schedule. Look for great deals on Huntsville car rentals and save time and money to enjoy popular area attractions like the US Space and Rocket Center Museum, canoeing on the Flint River, or explore the Five Points Historic District.

Huntsville car rentals are available downtown (usually for better rates than those at the airport) from Enterprise, Thrifty, Avis, and Hertz. Try Enterprise for the best deals. If you fly into Huntsville International Airport, car rentals are provided in terminal by Thrifty, Dollar, Alamo, Avis, Budget, National, and Hertz. Rentals are also offered via complementary shuttle by Enterprise. Try Thrifty for the lowest rates, followed by Enterprise and Dollar.

You must present a valid driver's license and credit card issued in your name at most Huntsville rental car agencies (although some will take a cash deposit depending on a credit check), along with proof of insurance if you decline the vendor's coverage options. Usually age requirements for a rent a car are 21 for compact and economy cars, 25 for all others, and an additional young driver charge may apply for anyone under 25 (select agencies will rent to qualifying individuals over 18 for an additional fee).
