<copy>Kansas is a state in the Great Plains region of the US, located at the geographical center of the country, and nicknamed "the Heart of America." Like most Midwest states, towns tend to be spread out and public transportation is limited, making a Kansas rent a car is a great way to get around. Notable cities include Topeka, the capital, Hutchinson, Wichita, the largest city, and Salinas. Most of the larger cities are in wooded, hilly, Eastern Kansas, while flatter drier Western Kansas is more rural farmland. Look for great deals on Kansas car rentals and save time and money to explore popular attractions like the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail, the Kansas State Historical Society Museum, and the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center.

Wichita has the only major airport in the state, with service to about a dozen cities. Several other smaller cities have very limited commercial service. Many people flying into the state (especially the eastern part) would come through Kansas City (Missouri). Kansas car rentals are available in terminal at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport (ICT), from Alamo, Thrifty, Dollar, Enterprise, Budget, Avis, Hertz, and National. Try Alamo for the lowest rates, followed by Thrifty and Dollar. If you arrive at Kansas City International Airport (MCI), car rentals are provided via complementary shuttle by Payless, Enterprise, Thrifty, Dollar, Hertz, Budget, Avis, Alamo, and National. Try Payless for the best deals, followed by Enterprise, Thrifty, and Dollar. Many companies offer additional locations downtown in cities throughout the state, usually at lower rates than those at the airports.

You must present a valid driver's license and credit card issued in your name at most Kansas rental car agencies (although some will take a cash deposit depending on a credit check), along with proof of insurance if you decline the vendor's coverage options. Usually age requirements for a rent a car are 21 for compact and economy cars, 25 for all others, and an additional young driver charge may apply for anyone under 25 (select agencies will rent to qualifying individuals over 18 for an additional fee).
