Kearney is a city located in south central Nebraska located on the banks of the Platte River, and home to the sprawling campus of the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Once historically significant for its roll as a post along the Oregon Trail, today the city sees a massive sandhill crane migration every March. Like most cities in the Midwest, destinations tend to be spread out and public transportation is limited, making a Kearney rent a car a great way to get around. Look for great deals on Kearney car rentals and save time and money to explore popular attractions like the Museum of Nebraska Art, The Great Platte River Road Archway monument, the State Historical Park, and Tri-City Storm games at the FirstTier Center.
Kearney car rentals are available downtown (usually for better rates than those at the airport) from several national chains. Kearney Municipal Airport (EAR) offers service to Denver, Colorado, and car rentals are provided in terminal by Thrifty. Many visitors arrive at Omaha Eppley Airfield (OMA), the largest airport in the state, located about 2 hours and 45 minutes east. If you fly in here, car rentals are provided in terminal by Enterprise, Thrifty, Dollar, Alamo, Budget, Avis, National and Hertz. Try Enterprise for the best deals, followed by Dollar and Alamo.
You must present a valid driver's license and credit card issued in your name at most Kearney rental car agencies (although some will take a cash deposit depending on a credit check), along with proof of insurance if you decline the vendor's coverage options. Usually age requirements for a rent a car are 21 for compact and economy cars, 25 for all others, and an additional young driver charge may apply for anyone under 25 (select agencies will rent to qualifying individuals over 18 for an additional fee).
