Situated on the isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, Madison is the capital of Wisconsin. Madison is a vibrant small city with small town feel, located minutes from the beautiful rural countryside in the south central part of the state, and defined by its five lakes. A Madison rent a car is a great way to get around and see all that this eclectic area, known as the melting pot of the Midwest, has to offer. Look for great deals on Madison car rentals and save time and money to see popular attractions like the Governor’s Mansion, or ride the train around the Henry Vilas Zoo, rent a boat at the Memorial Union Terrace, go shopping along State Street, tour the University of Wisconsin, and enjoy many excellent restaurants, an active theater community, and multiple live music venues. Madison car rentals are available downtown (usually for better rates than those at the airport) from Avis, Enterprise, Budget, Alamo, Dollar, Thrifty, and Hertz. Try Hertz for the best deals, followed by Enterprise. Madison Cooper Airport (MSN) is located 15 minutes northeast of downtown Madison, offering daily flights to nearby hubs including Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, and Denver. If you fly into Airport, car rentals are provided in terminal by Enterprise, Thrifty, Dollar, Alamo, Budget, National, Hertz, and Avis. Try Enterprise for the lowest rates, followed by Thrifty and Dollar. You must present a valid driver's license and credit card issued in your name at most Madison rental car agencies (although some will take a cash deposit depending on a credit check), along with proof of insurance if you decline the vendor's coverage options. Usually age requirements for a rent a car are 21 for compact and economy cars, 25 for all others, and an additional young driver charge may apply for anyone under 25 (select agencies will rent to qualifying individuals over 18 for an additional fee). On-street parking in the center of Madison is very limited and supplemented by a few garages. Street parking further out is much more widely available and free.
