Golf In The Bahamas

Golf in the Bahamas has long been regarded as some of the best in the region.  Featuring two courses that have been marked as possible sites for PGA tour stops and some of the most challenges courses in the world, golf in the Bahamas is a great place for golf lovers and new comers alike.

One popular way to spend a vacation is through a Bahamas golf vacation.  A number of Bahamas golf vacations are available through various courses and hotels.  Generally speaking, the best deals on a Bahamas golf vacations can be located through hotels that feature golf courses on their grounds.  Paradise Island, The Abacos, Grand Bahama Island and Eleuthera all feature golf courses, and may be found on hotel grounds.  While you do not need to be a hotel guest to play these courses, guests will receive discounts.  If you know you plan to golf in the Bahamas throughout your vacation, booking with a golf hotel is a good idea.  You will usually get accommodation, green fees, and other amenities packaged together for a lower price for your Bahamas golf vacation.

Grand Bahama Island has the highest number of lush green courses, and even hotels on the island that do not have their own course will offer Bahamas golf packages.  A free shuttle will be provided for transportation from you hotel to the course and complimentary drink tickets are often provided as well.  Although Grand Bahama is most widely known for its golf courses, there are also some great courses in Nassau and Abaco, as well.  New Providence boasts one of the most difficult Bahamas golf courses on the islands and in the world, with the world’s largest sand trap.

Just about every golf course in Bahamas features extensive sand or water traps.  For experienced golfers, this is all a part of the fun.  For folks who have never golfed before, lessons are also available at every golf course.  You may book private or group lessons once you arrive at the golf course, or often through your hotel concierge.  If you opt for private lessons, you will want to book at least a day in advance.  Group lessons generally have pre-set times for classes, and fees will be lower for group classes.  If you are a beginner you will want to avoid the Lucayan Park Golf and Country Club.  The course is the oldest golf course in Bahamas and is covered in trees, traps, and water hazards.  This course is best suited for experienced players.

Although many golf enthusiasts will bring their own clubs along to play their favorite golf course in Bahamas, clubs are also available for purchase or rent in the clubhouse of every golf course in the Bahamas.  As clubs can be expensive and checking a bag is free, it is a good idea to bring your own clubs if you have them.  You will also want to try and schedule your tee times as early in the morning as possible to avoid a long game in the middle of the afternoon sun.  Whether you take a whole vacation just to golf the Bahamas, or plan to pick-up a game here and there, the Bahamas offers a wide range of golf course choices.
