Nassau

Nassau
Bay Street

Nassau is the largest city in the Bahamas and the capital city.  Nassau vacations and Nassau spring break parties have in recent years become increasingly popular.  In addition to the many Nassau Bahamas attractions there are many hotels and beautiful beaches that beckon travelers.  From nightclubbing to snorkeling, Dolphin Encounters to Nassau spring break parties, the island of New Providence and the city of Nassau are a great choice for any vacation.

Nassau is also considered by many to be the cultural center of the Bahamas.  The city of Nassau was founded by British settlers in the middle of the 17th century.  The city was also the site of many battles and attempted take-overs by the French, the Spanish, and American Revolutionaries.  Even pirates, most notably Blackbeard, used the area as a hideout.

Nassau is far and away the most popular destination for spring break vacationers.  Nassau spring break parties have in recent years literally taken over certain sections of Nassau during the spring season, and travelers should note that some hotels may fill up quickly in the spring for this reason.  Generally speaking, spring break activity is concentrated in the downtown area and on particular beaches, so whether you are looking to find or avoid Nassau spring break parties you will want to note the most popular areas.

Nassau is also popular because of the many Nassau Bahamas attractions that grace the island.  Dolphin Encounters and Blue Lagoon Island are just a quick boat ride away, and many travelers come to Nassau specifically to enjoy these sites.  Nassau Bahamas attractions also include the best historical walking tour available in the Bahamas.  Walkers will travel by the famous Queens Staircase, the Vendue House, the Christ Church Cathedral, and more.  Guided walking tours are available for $10, or you may pick up a map at the tourist center to plan your own walking tour.

Unless you plan to take a cruise ship, Nassau vacations will require Nassau flights into the Nassau International Airport (also called the Lynden Pindling International Airport).  Nassau flights are serviced by airlines from the United States, Canada, and various countries in Europe.  Since Nassau is such a popular tourist destination, just about every hotel in the city offers free shuttle service for all Nassau flights into the airport.  This can be a major boon to Nassau vacations.  If you plan to arrive at your hotel during the night or early morning hours, you may want to make your hotel aware in advance to confirm that a shuttle will be available.

In addition to all of the great scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, and other outdoor activities, Nassau is also the shopping capital of New Providence.  The Straw Market and Bay Street are the two main centers for shopping and offer everything from Gucci to handmade straw baskets.  Dining out in Nassau is also a rare treat, and many of the restaurants found on Bay Street feature authentic local cuisine.  To book your hotel or flight to Nassau, book with a travel agency or book a travel package online.  With so many folks traveling to Nassau of late, there are some excellent specials and discounted travel packages available to tourists.
