Delfinario

Varadero is, undoubtedly, Cuba's chief beach resort town, and it is where scores of foreign visitors come annually, seeking the alluring stretch of beach here. The all inclusive resorts found lining the sandy strip are pretty much the standard for accommodations, and there is surely a healthy list of things to do, including scuba diving, playing tennis, salsa dancing, or just hanging out at a resort bar. At some point during your Varadero vacation, you might interest yourself in a few area tours and attractions, which can add memorable experiences to your itinerary.

The Cuevas de Bellamar is a popular attraction, found some 25 miles from Varadero, but you won't have to go too far to find another one of the top Varadero attractions, that of which is Delfinario. On your Varadero vacation, a visit to Delfinario will not only prove rewarding and fun for children, but for the oldest of adults as well. Delfin, in Spanish, means dolphin, and the Delfinario is an attraction consisting of trained dolphins, who put on quite a little show and even let visitors swim with them; seeing the dolphins in Cuba is one of the best things to do in Varadero. Delfinario is located within the Punta Hicacos Natural Park, and can be reached in no time at all, as it is found pretty much among the main resort hotels.

Most of the dolphins who perform here were born at Delfinario, and as such, they have likely become pretty comfortable in their large pool, which is surrounded by lush vegetation and not far at all from the sea. Sure, some believe that dolphins belong in the ocean, but these friendly and happy creatures steal the show at Delfinario time and again, and can even be known to give visitors a kiss or two.

The shows here go on about 4 times a day, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and while the show is enjoyable, most people who come here rave mostly about the chance they get to swim with the dolphins. It costs extra, but as far as the experience is concerned, it is worth every Cuban Peso. The dolphins will jump over you if you float on your back, and you can even hitch a ride about the outdoor pool by grabbing onto one of their fins. The trainers here are extremely friendly, and can answer any questions you might have about the animals and the show. It's kind of like a simplified Cuban version of Orlando, Florida's Discovery Cove.

You only get about 15 minutes or so to actually swim with the dolphins, and it is a tad expensive, but how many times do you get the chance to do such a thing, especially in Cuba!?! There are also options to buy photographs of yourself with the dolphins, which costs extra as well. It certainly makes for a nice Delfinario Varadero souvenir.

Should you choose to add the Delfinario to your Varadero vacation agenda, you will most likely come away with a deep appreciation for these amazing aquatic creatures. Quite smart, they have a lot of personality, and seeing them up close and personal is a treat that other Varadero attractions might find hard to compete with. Other tricks that you can expect at the Delfinario Varadero show include ball tossing, acrobatics, and things the like.

Should you get hungry, or just need a snack, there is a snack bar at this featured pick for Varadero attractions, and you can even go horseback riding here should you fancy the idea. Imagine swimming with dolphins one hour, then galloping on a powerful horse another. For those who love animals, Delfinario is certainly one of the Varadero attractions that should make the list of the things to do. A Varadero vacation might be mostly about relaxing at the beach, but there certainly are other worthy pursuits, like Delfinario, should you be looking for a fun diversion.
