Blue Lagoon Jamaica

Jamaica is home to many sites of natural beauty, such as the Dunn's River Falls and the Blue Mountains. One of the most famous and stunning is the Blue Lagoon, a deep blue water hole fed by freshwater springs and connected to the sea by a narrow channel. The popular attraction is also home to the top-class Blue Lagoon Hotel.

Blue Lagoon Jamaica was made famous several movies of the same name, the most famous being the 1980s remake featuring Brooke Shields. Though set in the South Pacific, the movie used shots of the Blue Lagoon Jamaica.

The Blue Lagoon Jamaica is famed for its intense blue and green colors, which ranges from azure to intense emerald and changes as the sun moves over it. The deep hue is caused by the depth of the lagoon: almost 200 feet (more than 50 meters). Blue Lagoon Jamaica is open to the public; anyone can make the journey from nearby Port Antonio. Scuba diving in the crystal clear waters is an experience not to be forgotten. Another popular activity at Blue Lagoon Jamaica is taking a boat along the coast to nearby Monkey Island.

Several tour companies in Port Antonio offer tours to Blue Lagoon. Independent travelers can park in the parking lot for the closed Blue Lagoon restaurant, an excellent eatery whose reopening is much awaited by tourists and locals alike.

Just down the coast from the Blue Lagoon (or "Blue Hole" as it is known to locals) sits the luxurious Blue Lagoon Hotel, one of the best resorts in Jamaica. The Blue Lagoon Villas are only available by the week and cost upwards of $7,000 for a two-bedroom retreat. If you can afford the exorbitant rates, the Blue Lagoon Villas are the place to be. A housekeeper and cook staff each one of the Blue Lagoon Villas. The coastal setting is unrivaled. Port Antonio is just down the road, the beautiful Blue Lagoon is a stone's throw away, and the glorious Sun Sun Beach is almost next door.

A visit to Blue Lagoon Jamaica is not exactly the same as a year on a desert island with Brooke Shields, but the natural beauty of the setting certainly invokes an island paradise. One of the most popular things to do on a Jamaica, no trip to Port Antonio is complete without a visit to the Blue Lagoon.
