Dolphin Cove Jamaica

Dolphins

Dolphin Cove Jamaica is one of the most popular of all Ocho Rios attractions, second only to nearby Dunn’s River Falls.

Ocho Rios is famous for its high-end Jamaican resorts and as a principal stopover on Caribbean cruises. The resorts are geared to laid-back getaways, lazing on a beach or enjoying a cold drink. It is easy to enjoy an entire week within the confines of an all-inclusive resort, but there are several good Ocho Rios activities to get you out of the hotel.

A trip to Dunn’s River Falls can be organized from most of the resorts and from any cruise ships. These 600 feet falls are well worth a visit. Dolphin Cove Jamaica is adjacent to the waterfall, so it is easy to combine a trip to these Ocho Rios attractions.

Admission to Dolphin Cove Ocho Rios is about $15. For this, you get the opportunity to see bottlenose dolphins close-up. Once in the Dolphin Cove Ocho Rios park, you can purchase one of three packages to actually swim with these beautiful creatures: surely one of the best Ocho Rios activities.

A “touch encounter” at Dolphin Cove Jamaica costs about $40, and lets you stroke a bottlenose. For about $90, you spend 30 minutes in the Dolphin Cove lagoon with a professional trainer and a bunch of extremely sociable dolphins. The most expensive experience is also the best. For about $160, visitors to Dolphin Cove Ocho Rios are lifted clear out of the water while grabbing on the dorsal fins of these water mammals. No other Ocho Rios activities will be as memorable.

If the close contact with these intelligent creatures seems exploitative, it will come as a surprise how friendly and willing to please the dolphins seem. Certainly, the dolphins are treated as good here as at any zoo or theme park in the world. A new lagoon channel provides the dolphins with access to the open water when they are not working and playing with visitors.

Dolphin Cove Jamaica contains some other great Ocho Rios attractions. There is a large aquarium on-site, pools containing colorful tropical fish, sharks, stingrays, and eels. The price of admission also includes a walk on a “Jungle Trail” past enclosures of exotic animals.

Other Ocho Rios activities include a visit to Firefly, the former home of playwright Noel Coward, a visit to Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, and a trip to the reggae museum at Island village, but no other Ocho Rios attractions gives you the unique opportunity to play with the oceans most intelligent creatures. A trip to Dolphin Cove Jamaica is a once in a lifetime experience.
