Negril hotels range from low-budget guesthouses, to small boutique hotels in the West End, to large all-inclusive resorts in Long Bay. With such diverse options, it is easy choose hotels in Negril for any taste or budget.
When freethinking American tourists began to arrive in the 1960s, hotels in Negril were little more than guest rooms in the houses of local families. The first major resort, Negril Beach Village (now Hedonism II), opened in 1977. Today, Negril hotels are the heart of a well-established tourism industry. Negril beach hotels are spread across the beautiful seven mile beach, catering to visitors from around the world.
In choosing Negril hotels, travelers have a choice between to separate and different areas of the town: the West End and Long Bay. Hotels in the West End tend to be smaller and more basic, but also more charming than Negril beach hotels of Long Bay. Long Bay is home to most of the all inclusive resorts in Negril Jamaica. Negril beach hotels in Long Bay are generally more expensive than similar Negril hotels in the West End, but there is a good selection of affordable lodging throughout the town, more so than in other resort town such as Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
There are several low budget Negril beach hotels on the Long Bay. Alfred's Ocean Place, Roots Bamboo, and Westport Cottages are some of the favorites. All offer rooms for less than $50 a night. In the West End, Lighthouse Park, New Star Guest House, and Blue Cave Castle are excellent budget options. The latter offers great views of the bay.
All inclusive resorts in Negril Jamaica are some of the most popular on the island. They are generally geared to a younger crowd than those of Montego Bay or Ocho Rios and are less suitable for families. Many all inclusive resorts in Negril Jamaica are adults only. Popular resorts include Couples Swept Away, Sandals, and Hedonism II. Hedonism II is famous for its risque attitude, late night parties, and nude bathing.
Hotels in Negril are often full during March and April as college students from the United States flock here for Spring Break revelry. It is best to avoid these months if you are past college age. Rates for hotels in Negril from December to April can be twice as much as during the summer months. As with most vacation destinations, the best deals can usually be obtained from a travel agent or online booking site combing a flight to Jamaica with accommodation. Booking into all inclusive resorts in Negril Jamaica further consolidates vacation costs, as these hotels include food and drinks in their price.
With so many small and independent hotels in Negril in addition to the large resorts, it is possible to find accommodation for any taste. Negril hotels have come a long way since the 1960s, but most retain a laid-back and fun-loving atmosphere of earlier times.
