The Valle Escondido Lodge in San Ramon, Costa Rica is part hotel, part private reserve, and part working farm. Surrounding it are acres of lush tropical forest, and the farm produces colorful plants that are grown for export. Guests can enjoy guided or self-guided hikes through the forest, and guided tours of the plant farm can also be arranged with ease. Should the urge to enjoy some urban exposure set in during a stay, the Costa Rica capital of San Jose is about a 90-minute drive away.
The rooms at the Valle Escondido Lodge aren’t luxurious. This quite simply isn’t the kind of place that strives to provide its guests with an overabundance of amenities. Instead, it offers a natural setting that inspires on various levels and is more about the home grown Costa Rican experience. This doesn’t mean that guests have to rough it. The rooms are comfortable enough, featuring double beds and private bathrooms with hot water. Outside of the rooms, the general facilities include a bar, a restaurant, a pool, and laundry facilities. There is also a souvenir shop for those who are interested in picking up some keepsakes. Among the available services is room service, and as mentioned, guests can arrange various tours.
