Posada de Santiago is located in Santiago Atitlan on the southern shores southwest of Panajachel. Stone cottages are complete with hammocks and private gardens and with a double and a single bed inside. Six cottages each have a fireplace, hot water, and a private bath. There are also Junior and Grand Suites with capacities for four to six guests, and a large stone house accommodating large groups of up to 20. There is definitely no lack of things to do here; cultural tours, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and canoeing are available activities. The hotel features a pool, sauna, gym, and Jacuzzi along with a lakefront bar.

This is one of the only hotels near Lake Atitlan with such a distinct and differing cultural background than the Maya, but it fits perfectly. Dorms, singles, doubles, and triples comprise room sizes available. The adjacent Visitor’s Lounge has a bar with excellent lake views and a menu stocked with classic Japanese dishes. Hotel Sol also features an expansive rooftop deck with loungers for relaxing and taking in the scenery. The family has created some beautiful gardens throughout the property with a favorite housing a Japanese style thermal bath.

On the North Shore in Santa Cruz Atitlan is La Iguana Perdida, sharing a home with a popular diving company. La Iguana Perdida is well-known as a chilled out backpacker hotel with plenty of fun going on, almost at all times. The bar is filled with travelers and some not so keen on leaving. Electricity has been a more recent installment which also brought with it cold drinks and hot showers. Diving, snorkeling, waterskiing, and kayaking are possible via the hotel. La Iguana also offers Spanish lessons and a salon.

Mikaso Hotel is one of the hotels near Lake Atitlan on the west shore built in colonial style and permeated by the history of the country.
