Things to Do in San Pedro Sula

San Pedro Sula is the second-largest city in Honduras, after the capital of Tegucigalpa. One of the top things to do in San Pedro Sula is make the most of its amenities, as this is a connecting point for many of the country’s standout rural attractions such as the Copan Ruins and the beaches of Roatan Island. Other San Pedro Sula attractions recommend the city as a tourist site in its own right, though few stay here for more than a couple of days at most. Activities in San Pedro Sula tend to be short, sweet, and designed to pack you on your way to the country’s more notable attractions.

Mercado de Artesanias Guamilito

Goods from all over Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador make their way into the stalls of the excellent Mercado de Artesanias Guamilito – far and away one of the better San Pedro Sula attractions the city has to offer. Leather goods are particularly famous from here, though in truth you can find just about anything, from clothes to trinkets to food and drinks. The Mercado forcibly calls for you to use your bartering skills; obtaining the price you want can prove one of the more difficult—and therefore rewarding—activities in San Pedro Sula.

Malls

Aside from the Mercado de Artesanias Guamilito, things to do in San Pedro Sula that revolve around shopping include visiting the City Mall and Metroplaza Mall. In these Westernized areas you can stock up on practical necessities such as adventure clothing for upcoming trips into the Honduran hinterland. Or, if you just like shopping, you can buy clothes and goods for everyday use at pleasingly cheap prices.

Parque Central

While its name may suggest Parque Central is San Pedro Sula’s answer to New York’s Central Park, it is actually a vibrant and fairly small area of greenery at the heart of the city. This is the perfect place to kick back and people-watch, and food and drink vendors are on hand to ensure you can make it through the day without having to go anywhere else. The city's cathedral is one of the San Pedro Sula attractions located in the park.

Museum of Anthropology and History

Located just a short walk from Parque Central, this museum is a must-see among the things to do in San Pedro Sula. Exhibits here cover centuries of Central American history, from pre-Columbian times to today, making it a great attraction for both lovers of history and those with a passing interest in the subject or the local culture.

Feria de Juliana

Activities in San Pedro Sula don’t come better than joining in with the fun during Feria de Juliana (the June Fair). Spanning out from the Avenida Circunvalacion, this June festival brings color and joy to the streets of the city. Carnivals, live music, and cultural performances define the Feria de Juliana, which is guaranteed to offer the incoming a visitor an unexpectedly memorable time.
