Just to let you all know that the Amtrak service out of Union Depot is already running once again. This is great news because Union Depot boasts more parking spaces than the formerly out of Transfer Road station. Parking will cost anything between $5 and $20 per day (depending on the lot) but there'll also be 5 bus lines operating out of Union Depot, as well as a Metro Transit light rail operating between the downtowns of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

They spent something like $200 million on this new Union Station but I don't think that was money smartly spent. Domestic train travel in the US is almost being taken to extinction by plane travel and who can blame it. After all, who wants to sit on a train for hours (even days on end) when you can get on a plane for the same price and be there even quicker.

This is very good news. It's nice to see a historic building like Union Depot not just restored as a loft space but put back into service as a train station. Union Depot won't see near the rail traffic it once did during its heyday but it will have a useful purpose once again. Looking forward to my July trip to Milwaukee and back
