Im planning a trip to Vietnam as I've never been before but I am a bit hesitant about the country because of the war past. I was seeing a TV show..called Top Gear in the Uk and it seemed a nice place to go but I was wondering how Vietnamese people are towards Americans?

Yes, there are many expats living in Vietnam and no I can't say from my experience and talking to other travelers in Vietnam that Vietnamese have a grudge against US travelers, if anything everyone is very friendly. Honestly, don't worry about the war past, noone does.

When we toured the Chu Chi tunnels and Dalat, our tour guide was a former Vietnam soldier and he was very open and friendly. Have fun!

You will definitely be quite surprised as to how the country has changed in the last forty or so years. Vietnam is very modern now and the people quite friendly. There are also a lot of ex0pats who have made the country their home.
