I'd suggest Charlestown Town Beach, which boasts barrier beaches similar to those in the Florida Keys.
You can do beach camping in Nearby Burlingame State Park which has hundreds of campsites for tents and RV's, or head to Charlestown Breachway for beach rentals right on the beach.
Charlestown Breachway also has a pier and a boat ramp in case you want to go fishing, and several golfing venues are within about five miles.
Summer is here, so it's a good time to talk about beaches in Rhode Island. Sure it's a small state, but it has some really lovely beaches. Block Island is a great place to look for beaches. Misquamicut Beach also is nice and a popular choice.
