the Belo Monte Damn project has been suspended without further date. they wanted to build a horrible dam in the middle of the beautiful amazon but the indigenous people of Brazil protested and managed to pursuade the Brazilian government to stop building the monstrosity.

Can you believe that building the dam would actually displace thousands of indigenous people?

I heard of this a while ago...it's true that it's pretty disgusting big corporations doing this to nature and people. apparently, one of their main justifications for building the dam was for the production of non-fossil fuel energy to reduce the impact of global warming (LOL)

I'm not surprised that they stopped this project...the lands of the Amazon are precious for not only the people who live there and the Amazon animals. It seems like a big dam project would be very short-sided.
