Five days ago, the government of Cape Verde introduced a new tourist tax which comes in to force from the 1st May 2013 and applies to all travellers aged 16 years and over. The tourist tax is €2 per person per night and is up to a maximum of €20 per person per stay,

This latest tourist tax is a clear attempt to stop certain people from traveling to this wonderful island.. places like this are becoming increasingly more expensive to visit, which I dont get. They say this new tax will boost the island's economy by a modest extra 7 million usd per year.

I agree with the last poster that Cape Verde is becoming an exclusive holiday resort. The flights are very expensive and you also have to pay VISA, and now this tourist tax. I think more people will go where it is cheaper..maybe that's their intention.
