I have noticed car rental fees have gone up considerably from a year or so ago. Two year ago I rented a mid-size car for 2 weeks for about $280 including all taxes & fees. Now it's over $400. I have always been able to get a good rate with a little research, but not now.

Does anybody know where to get a cheaper rental car?

    hi there,

Rental cars in Washington DC are plentiful and companies such as Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty offer good deals.

Have a look at Car Rentals in District Columbia to find some deals.

$480 is nuts for a 2 week rental, I know this was a few months ago but even then it shouldn't have been that much!

I was just mentioning in another thread that the cost of buying a running beater is low enough that you could buy a car, drive it for 2 weeks and then sell it before you leave to recoup most of your money!
