it doesn't make sense going all the way to Chile from the UK...you will find cheaper flights from Rio Gallegos in Argentina.. definitely much cheaper than from Santiago or Punta Arenas in Chile.
It's quite an experience being on the RAF flight from the UK....the vast majority of passengers on this route will be UK military personnel, which is odd enough but it gets more strange the minute you land at the airport which is more like an active military base with armed troops on the gate. It can be an intimidating experience to say the least!
if you have a keen interest in all military matters, flying with the RAF (VC10 or Tri-Star ) will be amazing. Mind you though, flying with the RAF is not like flying with a scheduled airline, you fly to RAF rules, which means your flight can get cancelled 2 minutes before it's supposed to take off.
