We will be in the touristy part of Guatemala in late summer, and I was wondering if me and wife will need any Malaria shots or anything?

No, you really won’t need malaria shots. However, dengue has been a problem in Guatemala for the last few years so I'd get some immunisations before traveling to Guatemala.

If you go out into the country, or the jungle, take a can of mosquito repellent and that usually does the trick. There is also a gel sold in local supermarkets called Mosquikol, which smells like crap, but it sure keeps the little buggers at bay!
