The drive from Seattle to California is a superb drive. There are basically a couple of routes you can take such as highway 12 and 5, which is the fastest but the least scenic route. The other way is driving east through Yakima and south through Bend to Klamath Falls, or along the coast via the redwoods. if you do go through highway 12 and 5 be sure to stop by Coldwater Ridge or Johnson Ridge at Mt. St. Helens National Monument to spice up the trip. Worth the stopover!

The 101 Route south of San Francisco is stunning! Before crossing into California from Oregon, be sure to stop at the “welcome center†to pick up brochures and maps and stop at Seal Rock State Park (for taking photos), Tillamook (famous for cheese) and Gold Beach for a Rogue River jet boat trip.

A definite “must see†in Northern California is the "Avenue of the Giants" which is the old two-lane paved Highway 101 road that parallels the current Highway 101 for about 15 miles. There’s a cool Visitor Center about halfway through the drive at the Burlington campground.
