I'll be staying in Budapest with a few friends and we're thinking to rent a car and enjoy a day trip to Vienna also. I'll be designated driver and I am nervous about driving in Hungary..do i need to be? How are the roads signs, etc.

Has anybody Budapest- Vienna by car and how long did it take?

The only problem I can see it's getting used to the fact they drive on the wrong side of road. Apart from that, road signs will be familiar to you -at least most of them.

You'll also get a delay by the Hungary-Vienna border but this is normal as you have to go through border control checks.

Driving time, It's about 3 hours, depending on the traffic flow, and I'd also suggest spending two days in Vienna rather than a day if you want to get to see more. Btw, Vienna will be more expensive so account for this:)
