There's a new ferry connecting south Florida to the Bahamas. Resorts World Bimini Bay Casino opened July 1 and it is operating ferry service between Miami and Bimini. It takes about two hours to make the trip, which costs $49.50 each way. This is the second of the ferries to the Bahamas to start up this year. Spanish-operated Balearia Bahamas Express also makes the trip from Miami to Bimini and back, at the same price.

Sounds like my kind of boat cruise. I'm on the west coast, so it would definitely be worth the trip for a two hour jaunt to the Bahamas. Thanks for the update.

I heard this ferry service (Miami to Bimini) failed safety checks 3 days after its opening day and as far as I know the ferry ship has not yet cruised. It's so disappointing that whoever was responsible for overseeing the safety aspect of the ferry didn't make the checks before hand.

Oh that's no good...I hope it's running and safe. That's really important, isn't it?

I read an article posted in June of this year on a Caribbean news website about the much anticipated ferry run from Florida to Bimini Bay. The ferry service is expected to increase tourism to Bimini by as much as 400,000 visitors each year. Hope they get the kinks worked out.
