Companies are posting plans for what they would do with the four new casino licencees that New York State will hand out this fall. They have big plans, of course, for resorts, lots of jobs, and lots of gaming. They would like to put a casino around Albany, in the Finger Lakes, and two in Central New York close to New York City.

Seems like casinos are popping up everywhere, not just in the states but everywhere around the world. Don't know if that's a good thing because after all what does gambling do other that feed addiction? Another thing to think about is who gets casino licenses and on what basis?

I do not see either how casinos would help revitalize communities but what I find fishy is casinos seeking local property tax breaks, as if they do not earn enough. In fact, I heard the company Nevele who is bidding to build a casino resort in the Ulster County village of Ellenville is seeking $100 million in tax breaks over the next 15 years.
