The ferry that services this route between Ft Morgan and Dauphin Island is the Mobile Bay Ferry, which takes about 30 minutes to cross. If you ask me, the ferry ride is so much better than driving through Mobile from the island. It's also cheaper. It only costs $5 there and back.

Mobile Bay Ferry from Ft Morgan to Dauphin Island

If coming from far away, I suggest to call first to be sure there are no unexpected schedule changes or find out about any events like the Fishing Rodeo. Also, remember that during holiday weekend you may have a long wait. It probably wouldn't hurt to call and see what kind of lines they are having that day.

Don't expect this ferry to have a regular service between Dauphin Island and Ft Morgan because it doesn't. In fact, there is one boat service in the winter and 2 in the summer for the crowds, which are huge. The morning is the best time to go for the ride before the crowds show up.

HMS Ferries, which operates many of the ones out in New England and Atlantic Canada, runs the Mobile Bay Ferry. In the fall and winter, they run at least one ferry, every 1.5 hours between 8 and 5 pm, leaving Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan from 8:45 to 5:45. The rest of the year, there's a second ferry that runs too. As they said above, be sure to check ahead for problems and weather stuff. They keep their website and social media humming, so it's not hard to check out what's going on.
