Train wil be the best way, not sure about the bus though. If I remember well, the train ticket to Brussels is €30 (around $45) and the train leaves every half hour.
By the way, it is worth doing the day trip to Brussels since you'll be enroute to Paris. The trains that go between the city tend to terminate at Gare Midi, but from there you can take any train to Gare Centrale.
From Gare Centrale, it's a 10 minute walk to the Grand Place, Europe's largest square, which is Brussels' main attraction. It is definitely worth seeing. There are other sights to see, but if you're in a hurry, you could easily visit the square for lunch on the way to Paris.
