As far as I know ash never fell in in Reykjavik, and yes, it is safe to travel to Iceland so there is no reason why you shouldn't come this summer.
In fact, air fares are cheaper nowadays because of the eruption so it's a great time to visit Iceland and enjoy fun 4x4 jeep rides and exploring the country's top attractions such as Gullfoss, Geysir and Blue Lagoon.
I'd also recommend driving to Jokulsarlon and on the way you can visit Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss which are both right beneath the infamous Eyjafjallajokull.
