An outdoor work of art, the Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, was relit yesterday in honor of the Beatle's 71st birthday. It's located on Viðey Island and the light will remain shining until December 7, the anniversary of John's death. The site also includes a cafe and visitor center.

    John Lenon's Imagine Peace Tower

The Imagine Peace Tower is really beautiful and it has the words "Imagine Peace" carved into it in 24 languages. I hear that Yoko Ono chose the Reykjavík instead of England because she regards Iceland as an eco-friendly and peaceful nation.

By the way, if you want to send wishes and messages of peace to Yoko on Twitter (@IPTower) and Facebook. There is also a live world map showing white glowing dots, each one representing a real live person, online at that moment watching the Imagine Peace Tower web page.

Yoko Ono Lennon re-lit the Imagine Peace Tower yesterday for John's birthday. You can do guided tours every evening from Skarfabakki for approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. The price for the IMAGINE PEACE Tour is 5.000 ISK per person and they will pick up from your hotel as well 45 mins before the ferry departs...well worth it!

Does anyone know why they picked Iceland with this? I'm not really aware of John and Yoko's connection to Iceland. This is really cool, though.
